She currently lives in Toronto.

BOOM!

This book offers great insight into a culture that still remains largely a homegrown experience. Try as we might, there just is no way anyone can ever fully recreate the sheer explosiveness and creativity that emerged from one tiny likkle island in the Caribbean so many years ago; but it sure is fun to keep a dance yard-style. Sure the dancehall 'style' has been adopted on many a foreign soil, and spawned a multi-million dollar industry (Hip-Hop anyone?), but ah no anyone can do it like they do ina Jamdown. Nor can one ever hope to see such photos unless they're from Yard, or know someone who lived in JA during the 80's. This book is just large. If you consider yourself a dancehall fan you would do well to get your hands on a copy of this book, fi real. You'll learn a lot.

I love when I find a book that investigates a particular scene or sub-culture. Beth Lesser's Dancehall captures the Jamaican Dancehall culture of the 1980s with the same level of sincerity and curiosity that Brassai exhibited while capturing Paris nightlife in the 1930s.

One of the Great Photo Books

Without a doubt one of the most important books published about the history of post independent Jamaican music. Great for the coffee table or the verandah! A copy of this book would be a great educational reference for young Jamaicans especially who have no clue as to that pivotal era in music.

The photos capture a wonderful period in Jamaican music. As for the poses you just going to laugh when you see them.

How many of us have ever seen photos of artists like Nicodemus, Josie Wales, Yami Bolo, Papa San, Peter Metro, Lone Ranger, Coco Tea, Sister Nancy etc in the prime?

Every library in Jamaica should have a copy.

Be warned - its a very weighty book!

About the Author

Arwin van Buuren (1980) is assistant professor at the Department of Public Administration of the Erasmus University Rotterdam. His research concerns complex decision-making and knowledge management in the field of water management, spatial development, and infrastructure. He published in international journals like Public Management Review, International Review of Administrative Sciences, Evaluation Review, Science and Public Policy. He is a member of the Scientific Council of the Dutch Advisory council for research on spatial planning, nature and the environment.

Dr. Lasse M. Gerrits M.Sc, was a researcher at TNO Built Environment and Geosciences and a Ph.D. student at the Department of Public Administration (Erasmus University Rotterdam) between 2003 and 2008. He received the degree of Doctor in 2008 for his research on complexity theory and decision making. He now works as an Assistant Professor in Public Administration and works in the field of decision making and spatial development.

Dr. ing. Geert R. Teisman is professor in Public Management at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. He received degrees in transport and sociology. His PhD thesis on complex decision making was first published in 1992, followed by a second and third edition in 1995 and 1998. On a regular basis he advises governments and private organizations on the management of complex decision-making, strategic planning, public-private partnerships, process management, intergovernmental co-operation in metropolitan areas and policy evaluation.

While it may be considered an overview, the level of detail that is provided makes this work suitable not only for students, but also for practicing pharmacists, pharmacy educators, preceptors, and new pharmacy managers. The book consists of 19 chapters making up 8 separate parts. The chapters in each part focus on related aspects of institutional pharmacy practice. The format provides useful tools. Each chapter begins with learning objectives and key terms with their definitions. The key terms are again defined within the text and additional explanation isprovided. Throughout the book, key points and their significance are offset from the narrative to highlight their importance. All chapters conclude with a summary as well as suggested additional reading and references. Very good review and discussion questions are available at the end of each chapter to emphasize important themes and promote discourse. Chapters 1 through 3 define institutional pharmacy practice and its history. This section examines the role of accreditation, laws, regulations, practice guidelines, and practice standards in hospital pharmacy. Varying types of hospitals and institutional practice models are presented, including influences on the way services are delivered. Managing Medication Use is the title of the next section, which includes chapters 4 through 6. Here the reader will find information on the pharmacy and therapeutics committee, formulary management, and medication policies. This section also includes a thorough description of clinical pharmacy and the training and credentials of clinical pharmacists. Chapters 7 and 8 focus on distribution systems, including how distribution is different for controlled substances due to federal requirements. The unit dose process is reviewed in detail with its goals and advantages. Technology is the emphasis of chapters 9 through 11. Electronic health records (EHR) are described, including benefits of EHR such as providing data for quality assurance and continuous improvement. Information on computerized provider order entry (CPOE) and the clinical decision support system to facilitate CPOE is also given. Several applications of informatics are presented, as well as the need for the integration of assorted information systems into pharmacy processes. The position of clinical informatics pharmacist is described with the education and training appropriate for this individual. The chapter on‘‘Automation in Practice’’ (Chapter 11) does an excellent job of reviewing how automation may be used,while stressing the point that technology should not provide a falsesense of security and must be appropriately managed. Chapters 12 and 13 emphasize financial issues including inventory management and budgeting. Financial terms and financial practices are described with helpful tables depicting balance sheets, budgets and productivity ratios. The section on sterile products includes chapters 14 and 15. Here the reader will find information on intravenous admixture and the importance of processes to ensure stability and compatibility. Information is given from USP Chapter 797 with figures showing examples of floor plans for clean rooms. A good discussion is provided on the categories of infusion therapies, various delivery systems for parenteral drug therapy, and methods of parenteral administration. Risks of parenteral therapy are alsoa focus of this section. Managing People is the seventh section in the text. Several definitions for leadership are considered, pointing out the difference between leaders and managers. Theories on leadership and styles of leadership are presented. Some personnel issues targeted in this section include recruitment, retention, motivation, and termination. American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education 2011; 75 (2) Article 31. 2 The final section deals with careers in health-system pharmacy. The importance of planning a career path while still in pharmacy school is stressed with details given on advanced training opportunities for pharmacists. About the Author
Dr. Holdford is Associate Professor & Vice Chair for Graduate Studies, Department of Pharmacy at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy, Richmond, Virginia. He completed his Doctoral Degree at the University of South Carolina where he specialized in pharmaceutical marketing and Pharmacoeconomics. Prior to joining the faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in 1995, Dr. Holdford completed his BS in Pharmacy at University of Illinois in Chicago and an MS in Pharmacy Administration at Ohio State. He worked as a pharmacist and manager at hospitals in Chicago and Columbia, South Carolina.

At VCU, Dr. Holdford conducts research, teaches, and consults in the areas of pharmaceutical marketing, health outcomes research, and Pharmacoeconomics. He is also the author of the published textbook Marketing for Pharmacists (2007) and co-edited/authored the book Leadership and Advocacy for Pharmacy (2007). He has authored over 50 papers and book chapters in health care and business publications.




Dr. Brown was born in Jackson, MS in 1940, completed High School at Forest Hill, his BS in Pharmacy in 1963 and MS in Hospital Pharmacy in 1971 at the University of Mississippi and Doctor of Pharmacy in 1974 at the University of Tennessee.�His employment includes several years in community practice, two years with Eli Lilly and Company in sales, four years in the US Army Medical Service Corps including duty as a Company Commander, 3d Infantry Division Medical Supply Officer and two years as Director of Pharmacy at the US Army Hospital, Vicenza, Italy.�He joined the faculty at Ole Miss in 1970 became full Professor in 1985 and served as Chair of the Department of Pharmacy Administration for seven years (1986-1992).�Dr. Brown has published numerous professional articles, four editions of the Handbook of Institutional Pharmacy Practice as Editor or Co-Editor with Dr. Mickey Smith, is a member of numerous professional, honorary and leadership organizations, and has received several awards including being named a Fellow in the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.�Dr. Brown retired from full-time teaching in 1999 but has continued to teach part-time.�He and his wife, Bonnie, reside in Oxford, MS and have two sons (a pharmacist and a physician) and three grandchildren.

Es un buen libro pero prefiero la versi�n en Ingl�s.

Yo comenc� leyendo la versi�n en Ingl�s y me parece mucho mejor que la versi�n en Espa�ol. Encontr� algunos errores de redacci�n y conceptos que difieren de la versi�n en Ingl�s. El contenido del libro es una excelente introducci�n para quienes inician en el �rea de gesti�n por procesos.

Encontr� interesante la descripci�n de los roles y las herramientas tecnol�gicas que apoyan la gesti�n por procesos.

Experiencia exitosa en BPMN 2.0

Es una publicaci�n sorprendente sobre la poderosa capacidad descriptiva de los procesos y procedimientos mediante el idioma gr�fico (casi ideo-gr�fico) BPMN 2.0, explicada e ilustrada en espa�ol. Tal vez es imprecisa la anotaci�n de la tapa anterior (cubierta exterior) del libro en el p�rrafo que dice "En este libro aprender� ..."; el libro no fue dise�ado como herramienta para "apredizaje desde cero". El prop�sito es servir de y de ; lo que si puedo decir, por mi experiencia propia, es que si el lector de este libro combina la lectura comprensiva con el p�ster (en espa�ol, que fue publicado en [...], y si dicho lector tiene la mente el modelo de pensamiento de "sistemas y procesos � procedimientos" (con o sin ingenieros de software de por medio) aprender� r�pidamente este idioma, y sentir� que por fin hay una herramienta conceptual adecuada para "modelar procesos".
El BPMN no fue dise�ado para hacer los trabajos "a mano" ni con herramientas b�sicas de "dise�o gr�fico avanzado; e.g. Microsoft(R) Visio Premium 2010 v14.0.6123.5001" porque se pierde o desperdician dos conceptos muy importantes y poderosos: "modelamiento" y "simulaci�n", y de paso la posibilidad de "documentar cada elemento directamente" con referencias de tipo hiperenlace.
Hay herramientas de software (licenciamiento con / sin costo) para realizar una excelente "primera pr�xis" y obtener una visi�n reveladora de c�mo BPMN (y lo que ilustra este libro en particular) puede ayudar a las organizaciones, incluso sin tener que adoptar todos los componentes del gigante BPM. Preveo felices experiencias en los futuros organizacionales con el uso de estos descriptivos y poderosos conceptos de procesos y procedimientos.
El p�ster mencionado arriba, y el est�ndar publicado por OMG, incluyen conceptos no desrrollados en la primera edici�n 2011 del libro , y espero que en una pr�xima versi�n "corregida y aumentada" podamos contar con las explicaciones complementarias

More complex than it credits Itself.

Collecting 8 different runs of the character, Trent Kaniuga's CREED Omnichronos is well over 400 pages of story and 70 pages of extras (covers, sketches). It's not printed at standard graphic novel size; it's a little smaller dimensionally than I'd expected, but I had no trouble reading the print. Some stories (a few which were originally printed in color) are printed in black and white while the final series are printed in color. This collection is also missing the CreeD / Ninja Turtles crossover issue, which is referenced within the pages as the first appearance of a minor villain, but that's neither here nor there.

The concept was originally conceived an first written & drawn by Kaniuga at age 16 and was published about that same time. It's a story about a kid maybe that same age. Maybe, in some respects, even the author; maybe it's a little about myself a little at that age. If the story is as smart as I'd like to give it credit it's an allegory: Mark is growing up and distances himself from the real world by focussing on the world within his own mind. He knows, though, that even the world of his dreams is imperfect and is, in fact, being over-run. He rules the world within his mind, but, just as much, he's at its mercy. If the story is not intended as an allegory or if the reader prefers not to read it philosophically, it's still a well drawn 'comic' with fun stories.

Kaniuga's lines blend graffiti and manga styles in a very successful way. His layouts and panel use is are easy to follow and, throughout the volume, his use of design elements improve and becomes very strong.

I thoroughly enjoyed the individual stories, the broader story told throughithe succession of series, and the over-arcing themes of internal conflict, growth, and understanding.

Laying the Foundation for Personal Growth

The measure of a true leader is the relentless pursuit of self-improvement in our daily lives. By never being satisfied with our skill level in our primary endeavor; by constantly striving to improve some facet of our performance, we will learn from our experience and approach every obstacle with a clear understanding about what we need to do to overcome it; accepting the safe status-quo isn't an option.

John C Maxwell certainly understands what it takes to be an effective leader; he's already written a slew of terrific books on the subject, and his latest effort is designed to lay the proper foundation for personal growth; to maximize our leadership skills by adding some measure of experience and knowledge to our existing level of expertise. The key is to repeat the process every day; this isn't a self-improvement project for the faint of heart.

Of course, great leaders fearlessly embrace this philosophy. They have a genuine hunger for knowledge and a passion for excellence. They also realize the bar will be raised, just a bit, every day; no exceptions and no excuses.

A short and valuable read that will make you think about how you're are managing your personal growth

"Self-Improvement 101" could have just as easily been titled "Growth 101" as the book is basically a framework around how to intentionally grow yourself - and particularly your leadership abilities. As with most of the "101" series of books, we get a condensed summary of material that has appeared in his other books (this one borrows heavily from "Failing Forward"), but it is very successful in providing you with the nuts-and-bolts required to intentionally focus your growth in the areas that will provide the best results. For me, the most valuable pieces were around the concept of sacrifice in order to grow (you must give up something in order to truly grow - you can't do everything) and the discussion around the risk of failure. Picking items to sacrifice in order to move on was a new concept for me...and probably will result in some of the most difficult decisions I'll ever make. A short and valuable read that will make you think about how you're are managing your personal growth.

As with all of the books in John Maxwell’s 101 series, Self-Improvement 101 is a quick-hitting introduction to the power of making personal changes.

When you attend college, the 101 level classes are the introductions to a subject that could be very deep and involved. That’s exactly what John Maxwell intended to do with all of his 101 books—give us just enough information to entice us to go deeper.

Self-Improvement 101 will introduce you to some of the concepts that Dr. Maxwell deals with in more depth (think a 301 or 401 level class) in his other books. He tells us the benefits that come from making improvements, the first steps we can take on the road to improvement, and hints at how we can live a life of continual improvement.

If you’d like to make some changes in your life, Self-Improvement 101 could be a great starting point for you, and could be a great introduction to some of John Maxwell’s other outstanding books.

The present volume, in honour of Professor Patrick Thornberry, presents new thinking on minority and indigenous rights in international law. About the Author
Nazila Ghanea is Senior Lecturer in International Law and Human Rights at the University of London, Institute of Commonwealth Studies. She has publications in the field of minority rights, freedom of religion or belief and the UN human rights machinery. She has acted as a United Nations consultant on minority rights in Iran. Her recent publications include "Human Rights, the UN and the Baha is in Iran" (The Hague: Kluwer Law International, 2003). Alexandra Xanthaki is Lecturer in International Law at Brunel University. She has published on indigenous rights, group rights and minority rights and has acted as a United Nations consultant on indigenous rights. She is currently completing a monograph on the rights of indigenous peoples in international law."
