not once but pretty much whenever you turn your mind to her

Normally I wouldn't review a book about Magick two days after first trying the Magick but this book as I have experienced it is a stunningly effective way to have a personal encounter with Lakshmi,not once but pretty much whenever you turn your mind to her.I am still at the stage where I think every success in magick is exciting ,and I have had alot of success with the Magick I've done but this was exceptional even in respect to those.
Baal kadmon is very clearly all about helping people improve their lives with magic-He's got a website where he answers questions from his readers but also just helps people understand magick for themselves.His magick isn't for looking clever it's just about results,and you get them with the magick he teaches but this particular book will take your breath away and I say that having worked the magick for only two days.UPDATE:I've been using this magick for a couple of months now and have got some really impressive results;very promising business offers,a payrise,a well paid job in the UK for my son, a study trip to Vietnam for my daughter and a very noticable improvement in the general quality of my life.Once you have a solid contact to Lakshmi you don't need to chant,she has then become your ally and trusted friend,pretty amazing,like all Baal Kadmons books.

This book is small, but very consistent. The Mantras are not always easy to read, though there is always the most faithful translation in English of each one of the Mantras which, by the way, they are all pretty powerful ones. I truly appreciate the work of this author, Thank you!

Totally Comprehensive Review

I got this in the last two weeks of my pediatrics clerkship, and the bottom line is that I'd wish I'd had it the entire time. I used significant portions of Pretest, Case Files, and First Aid for Step 2 for this rotation as well, and BRS combined the best of all of them, in my opinion.

Here's what I love about it:
- Leaves nothing out. It's meant to be a complete package and it succeeds. Case Files does it's best to cover everything by working outlying issues into semi-related cases, but some information still falls through the cracks. In BRS, it's all there as you go through it
- Incredibly organized. I think this is the main strength of BRS. You can go through whichever topics you want, as in depth as you want making it perfect for both learning and review. Resources like Pretest and Case Files have little, if any organization, and are somewhat difficult to use for anything other than learning exactly the way it's presented.
- Quality questions. The questions are superb, and with nearly 400 questions that are tied into the information presented, Pretests 500 questions (and questions only) seem pretty superfluous.

Remember, pediatrics is a massive subject, and BRS is a large, dense book by necessity. But it's an easy read and the impeccable organization allows you to go shallower on subjects that you feel confident on.

Do yourself a favor and get this at the beginning of you pediatrics rotation. You won't regret using it.

Great source

Mid way through my pediatrics rotation right now and I have to say it's a unbeatable source to have. It goes above and beyond what's needed and it's probably the only source you will need for the rotation. It lacks images but it makes up for it with numerous charts and tables. I was hesitant to buy it at first but having gone through half the book I don't regret this at all

Comprehensive, but not a great learning tool

Yes it supposedly the gold standard and the comprehensive Pediatrics book but it's too wordy and detailed. Similar to Step Up to Medicine for IM, this book can actually reduce your shelf score if you try to memorize it. Stick to UWorld, Case Files, and PreTest unless you've got free time to read it cover to cover in a quiet environment.

These are most of the Wodehouse works published before 1922 which, sadly, leaves out most of his best stuff and includes primarily juvenilia.

Duplication of books

Two collections of P.G. Wodehouse kindle books have identical contents, however, one is twice the price of the other. The cheaper is: 'The Novels of P.G. Wodehouse, the dearer one is: 'The essential P.G. Wodehouse'. Incidentally, both collections also contain 2 of the 3 books contained in 'The Jeeves Collection' as well. Having said that it is a fantastic collection of P.G. Woodhouse books.Most Cost effective is to buy Buy 'The Novels of......' only, mind you its only 2:99USD anyway!The Novels of P. G. A curious compendium

As a lifelong reader of P. G. Wodehouse and a confirmed Kindlephile I'm very happy to see Bob Henry has riffled through the public domain offerings available and assembled this huge collection. I haven't submerged myself in Plum's writing so thoroughly in years. It is definitely worth the price of $2.99. In fact, I sent a copy to my mother, who just last year gave me the family Wodehouse collection .. about 96 books, few in good shape but all in a bookcase in the basement. I don't feel cheated.

That said, Mr. Henry has a lot to answer for.

For the most part the texts are error free. I find it quite irritating that all phrases italicized in the originals show up like _this_, with underscores before and after the words. Even more upsetting is the fact that any letter with an accent is simply missing. Wodehouse does like to drop in casual French exclamations; having to puzzle them out is dreary.

Other reviews mention the absence of a Table of Contents. It is there, but you have to hunt for it, a tedious endeavor. I found it by going to 'beginning' then using PREV PAGE to step back into it. You can also get there by going directly to 'cover.' The links do work, too. Most of the novels have their own TOC as well but these are not live links, just a list of chapters.

The pictures .. whatever the source .. are dismal line drawings. But I since didn't get the collection to look at them, this is no real loss.

The worst aspect of the collection is the duplication of content. Wodehouse writes to formula, of course. Now Halfway through, I have discovered at least three instances where this collection contains multiple versions of the same novel, under different titles.

"Mike" (serialized in 1909 as "Jackson, Junior") contains both "Mike at Wrykyn" and "Enter Psmith" (from 1935, serialized in 1909 as "Lost Lambs"). The following text, "Mike and Psmith," is the 1953 version of "Enter Psmith," which is simply a reissue.You can sort this out here: [...]
The worst case of this I've so far found is the 1909 serial "The Gem Collector." The collection has the same story in three versions (so far), including the 1910 novel "The Intrusion of Jimmy" (published in the US W.J. Watt and Co. then serialised under that title in the British weekly magazine Titbits) then published in Britain as "A Gentleman of Leisure." The characters and incidents are essentially the same in all three versions, with only minor variants (e.g. a necklace is variously described as being 'pearls' or 'diamonds') [...]

My point is that without some comment on textual variance, out of place in a reader's collection, one is brought up short by a wrenching sense of d�j� vu (or, as the phrase would appear in the collection, _dj vu_.

The collector does the author no favors by presenting him in so slipshod a fashion. Still, the essential zaniness of Wodehouse's characters and plots shines through. Overall, I'm glad I bought this.

What happens to prospects for cooperation when we get to the nitty-gritty questions of practice related to paying for trials, imprisoning and maintaining captured pirates, bearing the burden of policing sea-lanes, or even determining what constitutes a pirate? Does anyone have a monopoly on the legitimate use of force at sea, and how is that legitimacy constructed?

In the mold of The Life and Games of Mikhail Tal

The structural layout of Alexandra's book very much resembles Tal's classic, "The Life and Games of Mikhail Tal." Kosteniuk's book is, like Tal's work, an autobiography. There is much prose (normally at the beginning of each chapter). She starts at her childhood, and takes the reader right up to (and a bit past!) her 2008 World Championship match. Many game fragments are sprinkled throughout each chapter, as well as a substantial number of full-length, annotated games. Alexandra's writing is easily accessible to players of every skill level, whether they be young, old, beginners or masters. I found that she mixed the number of variations and explanations evenly. Since Alexandra typically plays a slashing, aggressive brand of chess, the games are never boring! Also, the translation (sometimes a problem in chess books) made the English read naturally (shout out to the translator, fellow Michigander Jim Marfia!!). She drops various tips and tricks of the Grandmaster trade along the way. The Women's World Champ clearly invested alot of time and effort into writing this book. I wonder if she'll write another some day?

So to sum up, "Diary of a Chess Queen," is a very interesting read, and you probably won't be disappointed if you purchase it.

The Russian school of chess... the Russian chess tradition... these terms did not really mean much to someone who was not a chess professional or a chess connoisseur, even if I had followed chess for so many years and admired figures like Tal or Kasparov... it was not until I read Kosteniuk's book that I came to see what those notions really mean: a life dedicated to chess in the context of a whole society that is passionate about chess, where chess training and practices are held in the highest steem and the time spent studying chess is not constantly questioned as an absurdity. Kosteniuk's very enjoyable book brought these insights and many others that make me appreciate chess even more... for that I am very grateful to her and wish her continued success!!

It is not necessary to be an expert at chess to thoroughly enjoy this book. For those with a passing interest in the sport, the book is filled with photos of Alexandra and many other world renowned players. Alexandra takes the reader inside the political world of chess and tournament play. The book is also a travelogue of the places she has traveled to compete. And for those who want to get out a chess board and recreate the games Alexandra has played to become champion, there's plenty of them also - with commentary by Alexandra. Alexandra is a tireless proponent and campaigner for chess, especially for the young. She has held numerous simuls all over the world to promote the sport. Even against the Russian parliament. And the book is not ghost written. Alexandra tells us that every jot and tittle of the Russian edition was written by her personally. It's worth your time.

Maddy Raven does it again! Part 6 pulls us into the next Harper family disaster. While Alexa pieces together who is trying to kill her; Will is trying to prove he can run the family business for dear old dad.Will doesn't know his father has brought in another candidate to groom as CEO of Harper Global, while he is taking care of Alexa. Will also learns that Alexa is filthy rich but has run away from her family. She has also changed her name. She still thinks Rebecca is behind everything that has happened to her. Jason continues to play both Alexa and Rebecca against each in order to hurt Will. But Alexa pays the ultimate price when Jason drugs her and rapes Alexa. Jason then takes pictures of a drugged Alexa and sends them to the tabloids in order to expose Will and Alexa sham of a marriage. Great book to read and I can't wait to see what happens next. ENJOY

Wow!! What an amazing episode! Alexa's secrets are all out and Will's
reaction is such a relief, I really thought for a moment there that he was going to give up on their relationship. This is the moment you will fall in love with Will. This is also the moment that my opinion of Rebecca changed. I'm still not sure if I trust her, but I'm hoping she will redeem herself and that's she's not as evil as she seems. Can't wait to read the next book as I'm sure Alexa's past has finally caught up to her.

And the plot thickens...

Wow...did not see that coming. If you haven't read books 1-5, please do. I usually hate series like this where the installments are so many. This series is the exception. It's like a TV novella. The plot stays intact throughout and consistently developed each character. A bit of a spoiler...I found myself crying right along with Alexa when she woke up. Testament to how good the writing is when you can have such an intense reaction. Absolutely worth reading.

LAURA WESTLEY is a West Point graduate, former US Army Captain and Iraq War veteran. She is the playwright and lead performer in her musical comedy show, also titled War Virgin. Want to know what war does to people? Read this book!

War Virgin is a laugh out loud, heartbreaking look into the dark underbelly of the US Army’s deeply sexist and Christian culture. This true story of sexual awakening is told by Laura, a West Point graduate and combat Veteran. The book goes back and forth between Laura’s time living with an oppressive religious father to her time at West Point and the invasion of Iraq in 2003.

Laura’s Christian beliefs crumble after first contact with war. We are told war changes people, and in this book you will see that transition take place in an unbelievable manner. You will read about a commander who attempted to stop soldiers from masturbating, to gross leadership incompetence when Laura invaded Iraq without even a basic map in her vehicle. You will also read about the systematic disempowerment of America’s most capable women through Christian teachings at West Point.

If you thought West Point was a place of empowerment for women, you won’t think that after reading this book. This book takes you into the repercussions of sexual repression widely accepted and deeply engrained in West Point and the born-again Christian communities. West point’s connection with Christianity produces women torn between the ideal submissive Christian woman and their own desire to lead soldiers. Laura’s story shows us how war is a powerful force capable of stripping away deeply held beliefs. War leaves you raw and gives you the opportunity to choose your own path which is what Laura did after a long and arduous journey through the desert of Iraq.

While women always bear the brunt of war’s worst through rape, displacement and sorrow, for Laura, war wasn’t a horrific experience. For Laura, war, not Jesus, was her ultimate savior.

Fascinating, Funny and Inspirational

I highly recommend this book! This chronicle of one woman's determination to prove herself and find self-acceptance is a very personal story yet it is also a universal story of the struggle many go through to overcome abuse and neglect. The author looks back on her voyage from a good girl who just wanted to please daddy to a confident, independent and sensual adult. It is a memoir told in frank and conversational language and is surprisingly funny, despite the tough subject matter. As a child and teenager she did everything right yet was rarely shown love and appreciation by her parents...the rigid religious repression and most of all the emotional abuse and neglect was downright heartbreaking. Yet despite this lack of nurturing, she remained determined to succeed. It was thrilling to watch her explore and grow and experiment with how to best fit into a world in which she was the minority, as a woman at West Point, in the army and at war. The first hand insights into the odd combination of hyper-vigilance and dulling boredom and drudgery while stationed in the middle east was fascinating. The description of the invasion of Iraq was quite a surprise! The scars her upbringing and experiences in the Army left damaged her deeply and I was cheering her on the whole time as she hit rock bottom and then struggled to become whole and to heal and to find self-acceptance. This person who got so little as a child is committed to giving back to others. Her metamorphosis to a kinder, stronger and more adventurous person than anyone would have predicted based on her early years is touching and inspirational.

I was introduced to War Virgin by my husband, a classmate of Laura's at West Point. I was anxious to read about the school and war from a female perspective - as I had been privy only to a male's point of view. Well, I loved it! I found it very readable, and I found her struggle relatable - despite our varying backgrounds. At the heart of the book she is like any of us, driving forward through an often challenging life, trying to find meaning. Her path, complicated by duty, honor, country and female-ness, offered a perspective I was eager to acquire. Laura's writing felt personal and real, and I read it as if a friend was telling me her story. The pacing kept me engaged, as did the drama and laughs. I lamented arriving at the end of the book, but ultimately, I was relieved that she had broken through, found her inner strength and claimed her life as her own.

Great Book for converting traditional web developer to mobile world

I am doing mostly Java, PHP, RoR development. Has never done any mobile web development before. To cater my curiocity of furture mobile we, I ordered this book using 2 day shipping. I was woundering why this book didn't have a cent of discount. Now I know why, it is a great book which worths all the money.

I read it from beginning to end in 6 hours. I simply could not stop. It covers most important aspect of mobile web development. Now I am very anxious to try build a mobile version of my website.

Examples in the book are deep enough and very easy to understand.

Ugh. An awful book. Way outdated. Don't bother. This was a total waste of money. Worth 50¢. I cannot recommend this book.

Excellent introduction to mobile web programming

This is a quick and effective introduction to developing websites specifically targeted at mobile device users. I say "users" for a reason -- one of the strongest advantages to the book is a strong focus on considering your user and their needs as a key element of mobile web development.

My overall reaction to this book was positive. It covers a wide variety of key issues for mobile web programming in an easily understood manner. The book is targeted primarily at developers who already have some experience at web development and design, so it doesn't delve into any serious detail when it comes to server-side programming or HTML coding, but instead makes a point of emphasizing places where the mobile web is different from internet interaction on a desktop device.

Mehta goes out of his way on many occasions to emphasize the serious importance of considering who (and what!) will be using your mobile web application.

"Any website accessed from a mobile device is mobile web -- whether it's been tailored to work on a mobile or not!" (Mobile Web Development, Nirav Mehta, page 10)

The book covers a wide range of issues -- from developing for mobile devices using a "lowest common denominator" plan to implementing highly dynamic mobile applications which adapt automatically to the device currently in use. The text is easy to understand and follows a logical progression, starting with the mobile web development practices which are most similar to the development of standard web applications before moving into the areas which are very specifically targeted towards mobile devices.
